Portsea Sandbag Wall Reconstruction Project

Maw Civil Marine reconstructed a 10-year-old sandbag wall at Portsea Beach that had deteriorated due to erosion and coastal wear. Works included constructing a temporary rock bund for safe site access, removing and recycling existing materials, and installing upgraded Geotextile Sand Containers (GSCs) to provide a durable and long-term coastal protection system.

The project faced challenges including tidal fluctuations, ocean swell, and limited workspace during the busy summer period. Maw Civil Marine managed these conditions through detailed planning, offsite fabrication, and precise scheduling around tide cycles to reduce environmental and community impacts.

Completed within scope, budget, and timeframe, the project strengthened shoreline protection and demonstrated Maw Civil Marine’s expertise in delivering efficient and environmentally responsible coastal works.
